Enhanced gauge symmetry and braid group actions

چکیده

Enhanced gauge symmetry appears in Type II string theory (as well as Fand M-theory) compactified on Calabi–Yau manifolds containing exceptional divisors meeting in Dynkin configurations. It is shown that in many such cases, at enhanced symmetry points in moduli a braid group acts on the derived category of sheaves of the variety. This braid group covers the Weyl group of the enhanced symmetry algebra, which itself acts on the deformation space of the variety in a compatible fashion. Extensions of this result are given for nontrivial B-fields on K3 surfaces, explaining physical restrictions on the B-field, as well as for elliptic fibrations. The present point of view also gives new evidence for the enhanced gauge symmetry content in the case of a local A2n-configuration in a threefold having global Z/2 monodromy.

0 Mirror symmetry and actions of braid groups on derived categories

After outlining the conjectural relationship between the conjec-tural mirror symmetry programmes of Kontsevich and Strominger-Yau-Zaslow, I will describe some natural consequences of this which are proved from scratch in joint work with Mikhail Khovanov and Paul Seidel. Namely, actions of braid groups are found on derived categories of coherent sheaves, dual to Seidel's braid group of symplecti...

Mapping class group actions in Chern - Simons theory with gauge group G ⋉ g ∗

We study the action of the mapping class group of an oriented genus g surface Sg,n with n punctures on a Poisson algebra which arises in the combinatorial description of Chern-Simons gauge theory on R × Sg,n when the gauge group is a semidirect product G ⋉ g . We prove that the mapping class group acts on this algebra via Poisson isomorphisms and express the action of Dehn twists in terms of an...

Topological field theory and the quantum double of SU ( 2 )

We study the quantum mechanics of a system of topologically interacting particles in 2+1 dimensions, which is described by coupling the particles to a Chern–Simons gauge field of an inhomogeneous group. Analysis of the phase space shows that for the particular case of ISO(3) Chern–Simons theory the underlying symmetry is that of the quantum double D(SU (2)), based on the homogeneous part of the...

Braid group actions on categories of coherent sheaves

In this talk we will construct, following the recent paper [BR] by Bezrukavnikov and Riche, actions of certain groups on certain categories. Both the groups and the categories are relevant in representation theory, but all currently known constructions of the action are given by explicitly constructing action by generators and checking relations between them — this is what we will do. There are...

Field-theory representation of gauge-gravity symmetry-protected topological invariants, group cohomology, and beyond.

The challenge of identifying symmetry-protected topological states (SPTs) is due to their lack of symmetry-breaking order parameters and intrinsic topological orders. For this reason, it is impossible to formulate SPTs under Ginzburg-Landau theory or probe SPTs via fractionalized bulk excitations and topology-dependent ground state degeneracy. However, the partition functions from path integral...
